Bereavement is any event that includes loss. Loss includes death of a loved one or beloved animal, loss of a home, loss of a job, loss of wealth, loss of a relationship and others. Bereavement can cause physical reactions including sleeplessness, loss of energy and loss of appetite. While the grieving process can take time and should not be hurried and can take up to one to two years to recover from a major bereavement, the process can be made easier. Some people may find it impossible to acknowledge the bereavement at all, which can mean that their feelings are not worked through properly.
